Watch your step

We just spent a few days at the sitio - a farm/ranch way out (really) in the middle of nowhere. It's about 125 acres and Peter, Dave, and Nina hang out in the houses when they go to visit every few weekends. The rest of the property is used for pasture by the neighbor for his dairy cows. If you walk down to the water for a swim, you need to watch out for the occasional cow pie.

Pedro and his son Dilmar come by boat from their house at the end of the bay in the morning (around 6 a.m.) to milk the 20-25 cows. They have to round them up from the hillside and herd them into the milking shed. Then they milk by hand, carry the milk down the hill to the boat, and deliver it to a nearby dairy. They come back around 11 a.m. to sort the calfs away from the cows for the day.

Pedro and Dilmar carry milk down to their boat. These guys are STRONG.
