Happy Thursday

It's Feb. 14, Valentines Day for most of my friends in the U.S. Brazilians don't celebrate Valentine's Day. Most of the stuff I read said it's because it usually either falls right before or right after Carnaval, so no one really feels like dealing with it.

Instead, they celebrate "Dia dos Namorados" -- literally "Day of the enamored" or "Boyfriend's/Girlfriend's Day" -- on June 12 with the exchange of cards, chocolates, lingerie, flowers, etc. Most sources say this day was chosen because it's the day before Saint Anthony's day -- the "marriage saint."

We're going to Taubaté today. It's the nearest "big city" and comes in around the size of Spokane. Nina has a doctor's appointment.
